STROEK AWARENESS

Welcome to May, the month of stroke awareness.

A lot of people think that stroke is a disease for the elderly, check out todays post if you are one of them.

Alarming facts
-Stroke is a leading cause of death in men, killing almost the same number of men each year as prostate cancer and Alzheimer’s disease combined.
-Stroke is also a leading cause of long-term disability, and men under age 44 are hospitalized for ischemic stroke at a higher rate than women in the same age group
-The lifetime risk of stroke for women between the ages of 55 and 75 is 1 in 5.
-Stroke kills twice as many women as breast cancer does, making stroke the third leading cause of death for women.
-Stroke is not common in pregnancy or during the years women can have children. But pregnancy does put women at higher risk for stroke, and the rate of pregnancy-related stroke is rising.
