HELP! MY HORMONES ARE IMBALANCED AND I DON'T KNOW WHY.

Statistics show that 80 percent of women suffer from hormonal imbalance. Some women live with these imbalances without even realizing it; in fact, 70 percent are unaware of conditions like PCOS that may have manifested due to hormonal irregularities

Why has there been a sharp rise in these incidences?

One possible reason is the rise of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDC’s) as The WHO defines it- EDCs are exogenous substances or mixture of substances that alter one or more functions of the endocrine system which consequently cause adverse effects on the health of an intact organism(human)or its progeny(descendant)

The main characteristics of exposure to EDCs are as follows
* There is no safe dose of EDCs- They act at low concentrations and in combination with endogenous hormones, making it difficult to establish a threshold level of no effect.

* Exposure to EDCs during periods of vulnerability of the individual’s development—pregnancy, lactation, puberty—causes damage with adverse effects throughout their lives and descendants.

Research has discovered links between EDC’s and the ways in which wellbeing may be harmed, as shown by the following examples:

* Among women, the increase in hormone-dependent cancers (either breast or ovarian) as well as uterine fibroids have been related to inadvertent exposure to EDCs.

* Chronic conditions such as metabolic syndrome and its components (obesity, insulin resistance, hypertension, or dyslipidemia), neurobehavioral development disorders, and poor thyroid function are also on the list of possible effects of EDC exposure.

* EDCs has been linked to increased risk for breast cancer or endometriosis

It is insane the number of toxicants we are exposed to daily. Swipe to see.

Can anything be done about this?

INCREASED STRESS

A RESTLESS MIND AND BODY MAY INCREASE CORTISOL (STRESS HORMONE) WHICH DISTURBS ALL OTHER HORMONES IN THE BODY. STRESS CAN LEAD TO CHANGES IN THE SERUM LEVEL OF MANY HORMONES INCLUDING GLUCOCORTICOIDS, CATECHOLAMINES, GROWTH HORMONE AND PROLACTINA PEACEFUL MIND ON THE OTHER HAND ENSURES BALANCED HORMONES.

BPA'S IN PLASTICS

BISPHENOL A (BPA) PRESENT IN FOOD STORAGE CONTAINERS. BPA IS CLASSIFIED AS AN ENDOCRINE DISRUPTING CHEMICAL (EDG) BECAUSE IT CAN ACT AS A XENOESTROGEN. EDCS INTERFERE AND PREVENT THE BINDING OF NATURAL HORMONES TO THEIR RECEPTORS AND/OR CAN MIMIC HORMONES,CONSEQUENTLY, THEY EXAGGERATE THE EFFECTS OF ENDOGENOUS HORMONES.

AIR FRESHENERS, SCENTED CANDLES

MANY INDOOR FRAGRANCE PRODUCTS INCLUDING AIR FRESHENERS AND SCENTED CANDLES USE ARTIFICIAL FRAGRANCES.THE FRAGRANCE ADDED TO SOME OF THESE CANDLES CAN ALSO CONTAIN PHTHALATES, WHICH ARE KNOWN ENDOCRINE DISRUPTORS. THEY HAVE BEEN FOUND TO PROMOTE FERTILITY ISSUES AS WELL AS CANCER. PHTHALATES DISRUPT THE ENDOCRINE SYSTEM, THEREBY DISRUPTING NORMAL HORMONE PRODUCTION.

CONTRACEPTIVES -POSTINOR

ORAL CONTRACEPTIVES CONTAINING ETHYNYLESTRADIOL, A SYNTHETIC ESTROGEN, HAVE BEEN SUSPECTED TO HAVE ADVERSE ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS SINCE PRENATAL EXPOSURE TO DIETHYLSTILBESTROL, ANOTHER SYNTHETIC ESTROGEN, WAS REPORTED TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH CLEAR CELL ADENOCARCINOMA OF THE VAGINA IN FEMALE OFFSPRING

PRODUCTS WITH PHTHALATES

PHTHALATES ARE USED AS A PLASTICIZER IN COSMETICS AND PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS. STUDIES REVEALED THAT PHTHALATES WERE FOUND IN >90% OF THE 77 FEMININE HYGIENE PRODUCTS ANALYZED. MAINLY, ALL THE TESTED PADS PANTY LINERS, TAMPONS, AND WIPES. IN BACTERICIDAL CREAMS, DEODORANT SPRAYS, AND POWDERS. LEAVE-ON PRODUCTS, SUCH AS SKIN LOTIONS, HAIR CARE PRODUCTS, PERFUMES, SKIN TONERS, DEODORANTS, AND CREAMS. FACE CREAMS, EYELINER CREAMS, HAND CREAMS, SUNSCREENS, LIPSTICKS, AND NAIL POLISH. DENTAL HYGIENE AND RINSE-OFF PRODUCTS (INCLUDING BODY WASH, SHAMPOOS, HAIR CONDITIONERS, FACE CLEANERS, AND SHAVING GELS).

EDC'S IN DEODORANTS

EARLY RESEARCH CITES THE POTENTIAL EFFECT OF PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS IN BREAST CANCER, SUGGESTING THAT UNDERARM COSMETIC USE MIGHT INCREASE BREAST CANCER. IN FACT, THEY DETECTED A VARIETY OF EDCS INCLUDING PBS IN BREAST TUMORS, WITH HIGHER CONCENTRATIONS IN THOSE SAMPLES FROM THE AXILLA REGION, SUGGESTING THAT THEIR CONCENTRATIONS MIGHT BE RELATED TO THE APPLICATION OF DEODORANT PRODUCTS, BODY LOTIONS, SPRAYS, MOISTURIZERS, AND SUNSCREEN PRODUCTS IN AREAS CLOSE TO THE HUMAN BREAST.

COOKWARE

PERFLUORINATED (PFCS) ARE SUBSTANCES USED IN NON-STICK COATINGS.TEFLON IS THE COMMERCIAL NAME FOR THE CHEMICAL POLYTETRAFLUOROETHYLENE (PTFE), WHICH IS A COMMON NON-STICK COATING IN POTS AND PANS. PTFE HAS SHOWN TO BE CARCINOGENIC, DISRUPT HORMONE BALANCES AND AFFECT FETAL DEVELOPMENT. AVOID COOKWARE THAT CONTAIN BISPHENOL A (BPA), PHTHALATES AND PARABENS, THEY ARE CHEMICALS THAT ARE ENDOCRINE DISRUPTORS.

UNHEALTHY FOODS

EXCESSIVE WHITE SUGAR, ALCOHOL, PROCESSED FOODS, DEEP-FRIED FOODS, GLUTEN AND DAIRY CAN INCREASE INFLAMMATION AND DISRUPT YOUR HORMONES. YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT AND DIGEST. JUST LIMITING THESE FOODS CAN IMPROVE YOUR HORMONAL BALANCE TO 70%.

LACK OF SOUND SLEEP.

YOUR LIVER DETOXIFIES AND YOUR BODY AND MIND RELAX WHEN YOU HAVE SOUND SLEEP. THE BETTER YOU SLEEP, THE QUICKER YOU HEAL. IMPROPER OR DISTURBED SLEEP DISRUPTS YOUR HORMONES AND CAN LEAD TO GUT ISSUES, OBESITY, IRREGULAR PERIODS, ETC
